Today’s iStockphoto.com portfolio update showcases a new holiday series for 2011. I really like this one, because these images can be used for Christmas, Hanukkah, or even New Year’s.
Two years ago, I had a relatively successful holiday series that utilized a warm red background studded with white Christmas lights.
I wanted to create a similar series, but with more of a cool, icy, wintery feel. To achieve that, I went with a blue velvet background and cool white LED lights this time. The LED lights do have a “cooler” color temperature than the regular incandescent bulbs, which enabled me to get the feel I was going for.
For the model, I just recently started shooting with a female of Russian descent. She’s got a great smile and is really into doing the variety of poses I need for a series like this. We got a local makeup professional to do hair and makeup, and we were ready to shoot. As I said, a lot of these images can be used for either Christmas or Hanukkah, especially due to the white/blue color scheme. Some are Christmas specific, with a stocking or mistletoe, and some are good for Hanukkah, with a menorah and candles. There’s lots of copyspace, both vertical and horizontal, for easy layout.
