Portfolio Update: Grass

Summertime = the smell of freshly cut grass.  At least around here.  I’ve got a new images series on iStockphoto featuring my models laying on a beautiful green swatch of grass.  The series features a young female and male model, posed both separately, and as a couple.  Many images were composed to get lots of that great green copyspace for easy addition of text.  Props include a Gerbera daisy, a digital tablet, a book and a cel phone.  There are […]

Another “Hot Shot” Image

Weekly, iStockphoto puts out their “Hot Shots” newsletter, containing 8 images from iStockphoto and 8 from Getty, around a certain theme.  This week, the theme was “Dating”, and one of my “At the Bar” images from last year was selected for the newsletter.  You can see the image here.  The view count jumped from 113 to 1208 as of this writing.  No sales yet, though.  Thanks iStock!

iStockphoto Releases Photoshop Plugin

Yesterday, in the iStockphoto forums, iStock announced release of a new plugin for Photoshop that allows searching and licensing of imagery, directly in Photoshop and several other applicatins. We’ve partnered with Adobe to create the iStock Plug-in for their Creative Suite. Adobe CS users can use the plug-in to browse and download iStock directly from Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

An Instagram Disney Trip

Last week, I jetted off from St. Louis to Florida to surprise my sister on her birthday.  While there, we, of course, visited the Disney theme parks.  I took this opportunity to download and try out the Instagram application on my iPhone.  I know I’ve said before that I didn’t like photo apps like “hipstamatic” and such, but I thought I would give Instagram a try.  After all, one billion George Washingtons from Facebook can’t be wrong, right?

New Images: At the Bakery

This week’s portfolio update peeks at a series that was in a new-to-me location.  I’ve never shot images in a bakery before, but it’s always fun to take over a new place for some stock shooting.  This one was actually a bit hard, because we were in there during business hours, albeit a quiet time, so that the cases would be full of product.  Who would shop at a bakery with no doughnuts or cookies?  So we took the occasional […]

Another iStock “Hot Shot”

Over the kids’ Spring Break last week, we jetted off to Disney’s Aulani on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.  It’s a very nice resort, sort of like the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but more Polynesian.  I may blog about some of the things we did in the upcoming days.  Anyhow, we spent 24 hours traveling back, flying from Honolulu to Seattle to Detroit and finally back to St. Louis.  It was the sudden removal of the pilot for a random urinalysis […]

Portfolio Update: Blue Dude

I have a somewhat popular series of 3d images on iStockphoto.  This series revolves around a faceless male orange guy, in various poses, doing a variety of actions, sometimes with props, sometimes not.  You can see the series here: Orange Guy .  Sometimes, it’s a bit limiting, having to model props and worry about the rendering details.  So I found a way to bring Orange Guy into the real world, with his counterpart, Blue Dude .  This great series has […]

Some More Pinterest Detective Work

I’ve been following a few threads on the net that I’ve found that have linked to my various articles on Pinterest and the copyright issues it faces.  One of them led to a discussion on Linked In, which I joined.  One poster mentioned that Pinterest usage is “fair use” and isn’t doing any damage, since they aren’t making any money off of the “pinned” image.  I disagreed, and the poster mentioned a specific business and that Pinterest “is a wonderful […]

Pinterest Announces New Terms

The past several weeks have seen lots of publicity about Pinterest.com as well as its/its users’ copyright infringement of third party works.   Yesterday, co-founder Ben Silbermann posted in their blog: Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working on an update to our Terms. When we first launched Pinterest, we used a standard set of Terms.  We think that the updated Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy, and Privacy Policy are easier to understand and better reflect the direction our company is headed in […]

Medical “Hot Shot”

I’ve been down for a couple of days with some version of the annual flu, which is funny, considering my new Pharmacy series has people getting flu shots.  Anyways, thanks to iStockphoto for choosing one of my medical exam images for the Hot Shots newsletter last week.  It’s an oldie, but a goodie.
