iStockphoto Scam Site

Scams abound online.  Sure, we all know the old Nigerian ones ( I didn’t know I had so many relatives there! ).  Or simple fake email Paypal phishing ploys ( you’d think they’d at least spell correctly in those).  Sometimes, however, you have to scratch your head and wonder.  I’m talking about a current site out there that would appear, by the site name and the content within, to be associated with iStockphoto, licensing stock images.  I’ll put a screen […]

First Time Sales Friday

I don’t know whether it is holiday season buyers looking for an undiscovered treasure, or the iStockphoto Best Match sort algorithm pushing new files up a bit, but I’ve had quite a few first sales of both new and old images this week.   Low downloaded images can help give your business a boost from uniqueness – at least for a while.  Here’s a look at some images that people are licensing for the first time.

iStockphoto Adds New UI Element to Search

Back on September 5th, iStockphoto revealed their new checkout process, which allows buyers to simply add content to a shopping cart, and then quickly check out with a credit card, instead of using a pre-paid credit plan.  Yesterday, they added a great piece of interface functionality to the site.

The New iStockphoto Checkout Process

As I detailed last week, iStockphoto announced a new purchase and checkout workflow for your stock content licensing needs.  Well, the new software went into effect last night.  Let’s take a look.

When iStockphoto is Down …

Sites on the web sometimes go down for maintenance, planned or not, much to everyone’s chagrin.  If you need to access iStock to get a comp (thumbnail for rough work) when the site is down, try using Google images, constrained to iStockphoto.

iStockphoto to offer simplified purchase option

On Friday, iStockphoto issued a contributor update, wherein they announced the near completion of a new stock image licensing workflow, one which will allows payments directly from a credit card: This week we have an early peek for iStock contributors into some upcoming site news: soon iStock customers will be able to pay for file downloads directly with their credit card, without first having to purchase credits.

Shoot Description

Today’s post is aimed at the iStockphoto contributor.  When a photographer utilizes models in their work that they are going to offer up with a commercial use license, the photographer (and buyer) need to make sure an appropriate model release has been secured.  This release is proof that the photographer has permission from the model to use their likeness for commercial (or other) use.  It is a legal document, and it protects the model, buyer and photographer from any surprises […]

Feel Free to Crop or Modify

Once in a while, on the iStockphoto forums, a buyer will post questioning whether it is within the license restrictions to crop, tint or otherwise modify a stock image they have purchased.  Certainly, in the case of iStockphoto at least, the answer is “Yes!  Please do as you need to fit your project!”…

iStockphoto Releases Photoshop Plugin

Yesterday, in the iStockphoto forums, iStock announced release of a new plugin for Photoshop that allows searching and licensing of imagery, directly in Photoshop and several other applicatins. We’ve partnered with Adobe to create the iStock Plug-in for their Creative Suite. Adobe CS users can use the plug-in to browse and download iStock directly from Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Another iStock “Hot Shot”

Over the kids’ Spring Break last week, we jetted off to Disney’s Aulani on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.  It’s a very nice resort, sort of like the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but more Polynesian.  I may blog about some of the things we did in the upcoming days.  Anyhow, we spent 24 hours traveling back, flying from Honolulu to Seattle to Detroit and finally back to St. Louis.  It was the sudden removal of the pilot for a random urinalysis […]
